Lady Godiva

oil on canvas
Presented by Mrs B. Westermann, 1958
Herbert Art Gallery and Museum
This oil painting by Marshall Claxton captures Lady Godiva and her horse. Lady Godiva stands with her bare back to the viewer. She is naked, apart from the sheet wrapped loosely around the bottom half of her body, which she holds with her right hand. Her left hand is placed upon the horses neck, as if ready to mount it.
