A sampler worked by Sophia Avers, donor's mother, aged 10 years in 1846 who lived in Bensington (now Benson) in Oxfordshire. The text reads 'The rising morn cannot assure that we shall end the day, for death may stand without the door to call our souls away'. These words are also in Hymn 2:8 (Hosanna, with a cheerful sound) and versions of these are popular on epitaphs on gravestones.
