The testator bequeaths to his eldest son Thomas [II] lands which were Kemp's in Berkswell lordship, Warwickshire, and a silver tankard: to his daughter Mary Symcox (wife of Joseph Symcox of Coventry, apothecary) pass:- "Pennylesse Bulke", Cross Cheaping, Coventry (occupied by Richard Webster, John Tompson and Thomas Lane); the lease of a house and garden at the church end of Berkswell (let to Christopher Jeakes); the messuage against "The Starre" inn, Coventry (which she inhabits for the lifetime of her mother in law Katherine Preston); and 40/--worth of linen plus 20/- in money for a ring; to M. Symcox and her daughter are given a silver bowl and five silver spoons which were her mother Preston's: the testator allows his grandson Henry Symcox £10 for apprenticeship; M. Symcox' children will receive £100 for deposit as their mother and the testator's executor shall think fit; the testator's sons Thomas [II] and Samuel West [I] will receive the above properties' rents on behalf of M. Symcox; Samuel [I] will acquire a messuage in Popeshead Alley, Coventry (held by Thomas Dadley) for two years and then receive the rent on behalf of his sister Elizabeth Keelinge [I], widow; to his granddaughter Elizabeth Keelinge [II] the testator assigns £30, and £5-worth of household goods which were her mother's; of E. Keelinge [I]'s other children, Jane Keelinge, Mary Keelinge and John Keelinge will receive £20 each, Samuel Keelinge £10 and Thomas Keelinge 20/-, at their majorities provided none of the daughters shall marry without the consent of the testator's sons Thomas [II] and Samuel [I] (in which case the executor will keep the money and pay the offender the interest only); to his son Samuel [I] the testator consigns a mortgage upon a Berkswell farmhouse (occupied by Robert Bolton), a lease from the corporation for the testator's own dwelling, and interest in tenements adjoining "The Starre" (held from the Girdlers' Company and inhabired by John Hall and Henry Diston), togehter with absolute possession of a Well Street messuage let to John Muston, two Spon Street tenements leased to Richard Parnell and William Sootherne, a house in Derby Lane occupied by Thomas Lowe, and a stable and muckhouse at Popeshead Alley held by William Bosworth, also the reversion of Pennylesse Bulke upon M. Symcox' death, and a messuage with lands at Allesley, Warwickshire (occupied by Widow Broadway); because she enjoyed a considerable fortune before marriage, Samuel [I]'s wife Mary West will not dower from her husband's inheritance: upon his son Joseph West [I] the testator confers four Cook Street messuages (let to Thomas Sugar, Richard Butwell and - Leichfield), Thomas Dadley's Popeshead Alley tenement after E. Keelinge [I]'s death, and the reversion of Joseph Symcox' shop after K. Preston's death if he shall convey Symvox' premises to his sons Thomas [III] and Joseph [II]; Joseph [I] will get £10, his daughter Ann West £30, his sons Thomas [III] and Joseph [II] £15 each, and his children Samuel [II] and Elizabeth West £20 each within eighteen months of their majorities with right of survivorship: the testator intends that each of his four sons' wives and his brother Christopher West [I] shall have 10/- for a ring - the testator's great brass pot descends to his son Benjamin West; Benjamin's son Thomas [IV] will acquire a silver wire bowl; the testator's granddaughter Ann Wheigham is reserved 20/- for a ring: from the rents of a Well Street stable (used by Richard Bates) Thomas [II], Samuel [I] and Benjamin will pay 10/- every 21 Dec to the poor of Balsall Street and Ebrall End, Balsall parish, Warwickshire and transfer any surplus to Samuel [I]: the testator gives £5 to Mary Fetherstone of Balsall; £5 to Ann Gopsal, widow is to be paid in 20/- annual instalments; and 5/- to Thomas Hardeway, turner: Samuel [I] is appointed executor.
