Born in 1617 the son of William Jesson (q.v.) and Elizabeth Baker. Married Mrs. Ann Pinchon on 26 May 1646 at Saint Bartholomew the Less, London and father of William, Thomas and Elizabeth. [ex inf. W.H. Hall] See PA101/140/6. Jesson was called "junior" when a St. Michael's churchwarden in 1646. On city council, 1645-46. For Radford Mill, see BA/D/A/19/9(c); BA/D/A/42/3. He was son of the William Jesson (q.v.) who was mayor of Coventry in 1631. This one therefore occupied a corporation croft near Gosford Gate (1646 - BA/A/D/49/1) and Hearsall lands (1661 - BA/D/A/19/9(w); BA/D/A/34/2). Active on the city council, 1645, 1646. For the Hearsall lands, see PA55/28/1(y). Sold Barn Close, Bastille estate to John Miller (PA56/78/2). His daughter Elizabeth married Edward Hill (q.v.) in 1675 - see PA56/80/8. With (Sir) Richard Hopkins (q.v.), Jesson was a trustee of Alderman William Jeliffe (q.v.)'s second marriage's settlement (PA194/33/1) in 1658. Jesson was interested in Dukes Close, Squire Close, Hill Fields and Masons Close, Stoke in 1660 - see PA194/4/7. With his father, this gentleman was a feoffee of Foleshill manor, 1640 - see PA194/8/40-42. With his father William and brother Thomas, this lawyer was in 1638-39 a settlee for Eastern Green land which was destined for his brother-in-law Richard Hopkins - see PA194/9/33. He was interested in his aforesaid brother-in-law's 1638 marriage-settlement (PA194/34/1) and himself in 1655 married the Coventry widow Frances Noell (PA194/34/3,5). William Jesson was interested in the administration of his brother Thomas' charity (1654 - PA194/34/7). See PA194/34/4,11. CCA/2/3/912/1 shows that Jesson had Earl's Mill Lane land in 1656. M.P. for Coventry in the Short Parliament and in the Long Parliament, from which he was excluded in 1648 for favouring Charles I's religious concessions (he was allowed back when the Long Parliament resumed briefly at the Restoration [ex inf. W.H. Hall]); Jesson obtained Parliamentary arms for Coventry and promoted a loan of £10,000 for purchase by the Crown of Coventry cloth (see T W Whitley: "The Parliamentary Representation of the City of Coventry" (searchroom library reference 324.4248) caps. XVII-XXIII passim); he supported use of Gloucestershire cloths at Coventry (see PA100/12/35-36). As his father's executor, Jesson was involved in Town Court litigation in 1659 (see BA/E/K/110/65).
