This mercer was mayor in 1735 and 1742 and became a trustee of Sir Thomas White's Loan-money (see PA101/1/362; PA101/5/104: PA1681/27/1.XXXVI*); he died on 20 Feb 1752 (Old Style) aged 50, was buried in Holy Trinity and bequeathed £42/5/- to Bluecoat School. Hunt was a J.P. - see PA295/31/56. *See also PA202/1/39.V. City treasurer during the 1730s and 1740s (see PA35/2: PA90/21,23,24: PA2358/1/42), Hunt was an overseer of the poor in 1731 (see PA295/31/47) and was that year granted Cross Cheaping houses (see CCA/2/3/179/1: PA90/20: PA1681/27/1.I,II). With Julines Olds (q.v.), in 1742 mortgagee for property in Cross Cheaping, Bishop Street and Smithford Street and from 1743 to 1750 as John Kilsby (q.v.)'s executor (CCA/2/3/175/1; CCA/2/3/180/4 (endorsement),6-11: PA490/3-4: PA491/70/6-7). Hunt held Little Pudding Croft (BA/A/B/40/3), Wheatley's Charity land in Hill Street (BA/B/P/246/4) and land at Hearsall (BA/D/A/35/2; BA/D/A/49/10). Active on city council, 1728-51. Married to Ann Fletcher in 1736, he had Butts land from 1742 until he died (PA56/91/1,2 (will): PA849/8/1.II). In 1747 and 1761 he was a participant in the indenture of return for the city M.P.s (PA96/59/7: PA1484/61/2). CCA/2/3/195/12-13 show that from 1741 Hunt owned a Broadgate house. Hunt owned the "Cranes" inn in Bishop Street and land around Bishopgate Green and Radford from 1737 until he died - see CCA/2/3/203/11-16 passim.
