Victualler and maltster, Whitefriars' Lane (1830) - cf. PA56/65/11(e). His house was the "Old Crown". In 1838 Gilbert was reluctant to pay for repair of the "Cheese" inn - see PA54/250/2. He was an executor of John Hayes, 1823ff (PA1681/77/2.I). He owned the "Mermaid", Gosford Street from 1820 until he died in 1839 (PA56/1/6-8(will)). Gilbert was from 1824 an executor of the mealman James Hewitt (BA/A/G/23/35: PA2458/6). See PA56/44/20 (1817). Gilbert was involved with Red Lane land, 1824-32 (PA56/67/1.XIII,XIV). Gilbert tenanted Drapers' Company land, 1835 (PA468/4/3/44/49). See CCA/2/3/107/36. A trustee of Amiah Day's marriage settlement with Christopher Matthews (q.v.) in 1818 - see CCA/2/3/380/40. See CCA/2/3/1/20 (1810). Cf. PA2691/3/2/2. Gilbert bought in 1829 property at Whitefriars' Lane, Little Park Street and West Orchard which he retained until he died - see CCA/2/3/128/15,18,33-34. Involved in Town Court litigation, 1813 - see BA/E/K/110/473.
