An executor of James Maycock (see PA10/1/268: PA491/27/1), he had property at Smithford St. (see PA101/8/18; PA101/9/1) and in 1712 was a trustee of Sir Thomas White's Charity (see PA101/8/18). Birch was a St. Michael's churchwarden in 1694; he was appointed a St. Michael's feoffee in 1702 (PA96/71/2-3). See also PA184/5/2 for the Smithford St. premises. Like Maycock, this silkman held Little Pudding Croft (BA/A/2/40/7), and Hurts Close at Spon End (BA/D/1/53/3); he also occupied a croft outside New Gate (BA/A/7/2/3). As trustee of Dr. John Smith (q.v.)'s marriage settlement, see PA491/27/1. As executor, Birch's namesake son was involved in Town Court litigation as late as 1729 - see BA/E/11/110/278.
