An executor of James Maycock (see PA10/1/268: PA491/27/1), he had property at Smithford St. (see PA101/8/18; PA101/9/1) and in 1712 was a trustee of Sir Thomas White's Charity (see PA101/8/18). Birch was a St. Michael's churchwarden in 1694; he was appointed a St. Michael's feoffee in 1702 (PA96/71/2-3). See also PA184/5/2 for the Smithford St. premises. Like Maycock, this silkman held Little Pudding Croft (BA/A/2/40/7), and Hurts Close at Spon End (BA/D/1/53/3); he also occupied a croft outside New Gate (BA/A/7/2/3). Qua White's Charity trustee, see BA/D/1/31/22: PA55/28/2. He was a Bond's Hospital trustee in 1715 - see PA500/4/1. Birch bought Spon Street property, 1708 - see PA56/141/3-4,5,6. As trustee of Dr. John Smith (q.v.)'s marriage settlement, see PA491/27/1. As executor, Birch's namesake son was involved in Town Court litigation as late as 1729 - see BA/E/11/110/278.
