Head of the winemerchants' firm which survived in High St. until 1991 (see PA344/73/493-570: see PA1681/8/2 for the move); as a trustee of Sir Thomas White's Charity (see PA101/136/8, dated 1837), D.S. Waters was a cognizee for Smithford St. premises in 1824 (see PA346/60-61,63); see PA101/8/656 for debts owed to him by William White, victualler, in 1817; see PA101/11/193-200 for Samuel Vale's renting a Warwick Row house from Waters' executors, 1888-89; Waters was a petitioner for money owed by Joseph French to the bankrupt bankers' firm whose directors were Joseph Troughton, Charles Atkins Newcomb, James Troughton and Brian Troughton junior, in whose case a commission of bankruptcy had been drawn up on 26 Feb. 1821 (see BA/E/K/110/509: PA368/1/32: PA371/19), and was a trustee for sale of property which they had guaranteed (CCA/2/3/396/20: PA1681/7/8,10,11: PA56/48/1.XIII). Waters began in business with his father in the early nineteenth century (see PA101/1/236-243, dated 1809 -12). See PA99/9/69: PA368/56/42-43. PA295/9/24 is an 1879 bill for the firm's communion wine bought by Allesley churchwardens. See PA242/4/33. Qua Sir Thomas White's trustee, he was a conveyor of Abbot's Mill to Charles Jordan in 1876 - see PA67/32. During the 1820s Waters was mortgagee for Radford property - see PA183/13-15. He was called David Shakespear Waters because his mother Hannah Shakespear, in the usual "Victorian" manner, perpetuated her maiden name thereby (see PA402/1 fol.2); his son David (q.v.) was apprenticed to him in 1829 (see PA402/19 fol.1). He was trustee for sale of the late ribbon-manufacturer William Newsome (q.v.)'s estate, 1836 - see PA56/97/38. Waters was an executor of the victualler Thomas Haywood in 1823 - see PA56/111/2. In 1854 he was appointed a St. Michael's feoffee (PA96/71/22). A tax-assessor, 1806 (PA468/4/3/14/3).
