Born at Coventry in 1580, the son of Richard Jesson and Elizabeth Hill [ex inf. W.H. Hall]. A dyer, William Jesson was mayor in 1631. A feoffee of Bablake School in 1635 (see PA101/147/5) and of Wheatley's and his brother Thomas Jesson's Charities in 1638 (see PA101/138/2 PA101/140/3; see PA101/140/10 for his execution of Thomas' will), he leased Radford Mill from the corporation in 1635; father-in-law of Sir Richard Hopkins (q.v.) (PA194/34/1 is the 1638 marriage-settlement), William Jesson had an estate at Nuthurst, Warwickshire and died 26 Aug 1651 aged 70. He was a sheriff in 1620. He was a chamberlain in 1616. The family arms are on the Council House frontage. In 1629 Jesson purchased Gosford Street Property - see PA152/33. Qua Wheatley's Charity feoffee, see BA/D/H/7/3. Jesson was also a feoffee of the priory estate (BA/B/A/25/3,5,7; BA/B/A/27/1,3: PA56/83/1-3; PA56/99/5), Caludon tithes (BA/B/F/34/3), Keresley tithes (PA56/12/6), Alderford Mill (BA/B/P/432/7,8), Scott's lands (BA/B/Q/3/1 BA/B/Q/9/8,9 BA/D/G/11/2), Bond's Hospital (BA/D/D/26/5; BA/D/D/35/1; BA/D/D/64/4), Wheate's Exhibition (BA/D/N/2/1), Coxon's Charity (BA/D/AG/4/2), Swillington's Charity (BA/D/BE/11/7,8), Pinley manor (BA/G/D/1/5) and Foleshill manor (PA194/8/40-42). He leased St Michael's parish. tithes (1640 - BA/B/F/40/1) and Hawkesbury mines (1622 - BA/D/A/31/2) and held property at Bayley Lane (1650 - BA/B/P/40/1), Earl Street (BA/D/A/19/9), Earl's Mill Lane (PA468/5/3/43/22,23), Hearsall (1639 - BA/D/A/34/1) and Gosford Street (BA/H/H/330/3). See BA/D/A/42/2: BA/H/Q/A79/214. Active in the corporation, 1629-41. As a Coxon's Charity feoffee, see PA54/333/8. In 1636 he was a feoffee of Roger Clarke's Charity - see PA54/342/1. PA500/5/2 shows that Jesson was appointed a Bond's Hospital feoffee in 1629. As a Wheatley's Charity feoffee, see PA526/65/1. For the Radford Mill tenancy, see PA55/28/1(c). He had land on the Priory site (PA56/83/20-21). With his sons William and Thomas, Jesson was in 1638-39 a settlee for Eastern Green land which was destined for his aforesaid son-in-law - see PA194/9/33. See PA194/34/4,5,10. Jesson had an estate at Nuthurst which remaied n the family unto at least 1745 when Pudsey Jesson was lord of the manor Married Elizabeth Baker who died in 1660 (her will is at Lichfield Joint Record Office)[ex inf. W.H. Hall] BA/E/K/110/65 shows that Jesson was dead by 1659.
