Whereby, in consideration that Thomas Butlin (of Foleshill, Coventry, yeoman) the son and heir of Mary Butlin (of Foleshill, widow; sister and heir of Richard Rose, successively of Elmdon and Kenilworth, Warwickshire, gentleman, deceased) is to marry Elizabeth Jeacock (of Willenhall, Warwickshire, spinster) and of 5/- paid to each Butlin, the Butlins entrust Joshua Jeacock (of WiIlenhall, yeoman; father of Elizabeth) and Thomas Bewley (of Coventry, plumber) with (a) a messuage with appurtenances and orchard (formerly a croft) at Foleshill's Bell Green (lately occupied by John Stafford, now by Mary Butlin); (b) an adjacent close formerly called Hill Field or Hill Close but now in four parts whereof two are the Hill Closes, the others the Hill Meadows (all lately farmed by John Clewer, now by M. Butlin); and (c) a close next to Hill Field called The Grove, whereof part was known as The Coppice and part was a meadow (occupied like (b)): to be held to the successive uses of M. Butlin until the marriage, Thomas Butlin for life, Joshua Jeacock and Thomas Bewley to preserve contingent remainders [i.e. the interests of his potential descendants], Elizabeth Jeacock for life, the couple's sons (and issue) in order of seniority, their daughters (and issue) equally and T. Butlin's right heirs; when in possession, T. Butlin or E. Jeacock may grant leases of up to 21 years; M. Butlin covenants against claims via Richard Rose, their brother Thomas Rose [II] or their father Thomas [I] (gentlemen); the transaction is subject to the £55/3/2 annual rentcharge to R. Rose's widow Mary (now the wife of Michael Cleeve of Kenilworth, gentleman) for life in lieu of dower and payment of 5/- per annum out of Hill Field to Coventry corporation for charitable uses.
