Whereby, since John [I] Hayes (of Coventry, silkman) is to marry Barbara Wilcox (of Coventry, spinster), therefore, in consideration of £550 marriage portion, he entrusts James Powel [sic] (of Church Lawford, Warwickshire, clerk [in Holy Orders]) and Johnn [I] Kirkman (of Coventry, alderman) with a messuage (formerly divided into two) and other buildings at Cook Street which he occupies: to be held to the successive uses of himself until marriage, him for life, her for life (along with other provision for her which he has made by a bond of even date) and his right heirs.
