In the Court of King's Bench by Sir Robert Brooke following a plea at Westminster heard during Trinity term, 1555 and Hilary term, 1556 in which Anne Cokett and William Fraunceys replied to Edward Saunders (knight), John Wall [weaver], John Nethermyll [draper] and Richard Over regarding their respective ownerships of seven messuages, seven gardens, seven orchards, 100a. land, 32a. meadow, 109a. pasture, 92a. wood and 30a. champion and heath, together with 17/4.5 per annum rent in Old Fillongley, New Fillongley, Corley and Meriden (all Warwickshire) so that A. Cokett, W. Fraunceys and Edward Saunders et al held one-third each; E. Saunders et al claimed that they had suffered damage to the value of 100 marks: having met at All Souls', 1555 upon a writ returnable during Hilary term, 1556, the jury assigned to:- (a) Edward Saunders et al the manor place, two closes called "le Stockinge", a close called "le conyngryse" and "le barne meadowe", altogether 30a., plus "le chapple feylde" (8a.), "le pryests close" and "Jambells" adjacent thereto (10a.), and three closes of pasture and use of a meadow called "le Fylenleye feyldes" (51a.) (all occupied by John Holbadge, gentleman); also 2/0.25 per annum chief rent payable to Christopher Waren (of Coventry, draper), also Corley, Warwickshire lands called "Johnsones ground", a 12d. per annum chief rent payable by Thomas Walker of Fillongley for his Corley lands, 6.5d. per annum chief rent payable by John Wall for his lands in Corley, and 30a. wood in the western part of "byrcheleye heye" in Fillongley; along with 10a. champion and heath in Old Fillongley to the north of the manor place; altogether worth more than a reprise [annual deduction from manorial profits] of £8: (b) William Fraunceys a messuage [, garden] and orchard in Old Fillongley, and four adjoining closes called "lytle lynleyes" and "great lynleyes" (altogether 8a.), also "le longe acre" pasture and "le wheate croft" (together 5a.), "le du' wall meadowe ..." [tear], all occupied by William Holbage, plus a pasture called "le brereleye feyld" (12a.) occupied by John "Holbadge"; also a messuage, garden and orchard in Corley with a croft (1a.), "le wheate crofte" and "cockeshoote meadowe" (together 9a.). "Gybbes croft" (a 2-a. pasture) and "corleyecroft" (5a.), all farmed by John Clerke; a messuage, garden and orchard in Corley (together 5a.) with a meadow adjacent, altogether 13a. and occupied by Thomas Jourdan; a messuage with garden and orchard, three woods (altogether 12a.) and the three "cockeshoots" pastures (11a.), two crofts called "weye woodde" and "le capon crofte" (together 3a.), all tenanted by William Pagett; 6/- per annum chief rent paid by Valentine Smythe for "kennells ground", 2/4 per annum chief rent by John Proctor for "Beades ground", 18d. p.a. likewise by John Clerke for "oneleyes ground"and 18d. p.a. by Thomas Woodall for "Tomkyns" and "Tomkyns grove"; also "fawlke wodde" [cf. PA1681/45/2; PA1681/47/6,10, all dated 1899] in Corley and Fillongley and 12a. on the eastern side of "burcheleye heye "; plus 10a. champion and heath in Corley and New Fillongley; all allowing for reprise of £7/19/- plus three capons: and (c) Ann Cokett a messuage, garden and orchard in Allesley and Alspath [Meriden was regarded as dependent on Alspath] with twelve adjoining closes of meadow or pasture (altogether 32a.), occupied by Henry Weste; "Slaydon" pasture, Old Fillongley (11a.) occupied by John Holbadge, with "Cattells lands" (11.5a.) (occupied by John Holbadge), "Peeretree Feildes" (3.5 a.) occupied by William Holbadge junior, "P[ar]ke Stockyng" (6a.) occupied by Thomas Holbadge senior and "churche forde meadowe" (4.5 a.) occupied by John Holbadge; "le mylne house" with garden and orchard, plus three pastures (altogether 4a., occupied by Thomas Hall) and "Brome Taylorrs" croft (3.5 a.) occupied by Thomas Holbadge; also 2/- per annum chief rent paid by Roger Thorleye for lands in Corley, 6d. p.a. likewise by Christopher Waren aforesaid for his lands in Corley called "Baylies ground"; 6d. p.a. chief rent paid by Roger Taylor for "Kempes feild" and a wood in Meriden and Alspath called "le Hurste Woodde" (7a.) along with "Fylengleye grove" (1a.), "le Wretche pooles land" wood (14 a.), "le Water Woode" (4a.), "le shoote hauche" (4a.), "Albones grove" (2a.) in Old Fillongley, together with "cottrells grove" (1.5 a.), "peeretree grove" (1.5 a.) and "Slaydon grove" (2.5 a.) in the same place; together with 10a. champion and heath in Corley and Old Fillongley; worth £8 beyond reprise.
