Poddycroft, etc.

1244 - 1886

Coventry Archives & Research Centre
This was part of the complex of lands at the southern end of the historic town outside the walls. Irishman's Pad (later St. Patrick's Road but never Paddycroft) was not involved, but corporation deeds sometimes confuse Poddycroft (known since the mid 1240s - see BA/B/P/60/4) with the Great and Little Pudding Crofts. Queen Victoria Road was laid across part of the site of Poddycroft, whereas the Pudding Crofts seem to have been further east. Pudding Pit(s) were near Bishop Street Gate (see PA1402/11/1).
