Having been on an embassy to China, 1792-94, and one of the missionaries to Tahiti captured by the French in 1798, on 24 Oct 1804 Jerard became pastor of West Orchard Independent Chapel, where he erected a new building in 1820; Jerard was mentioned in William Gater's 1827 will (PA101/12/2), participated in the service at the laying of a foundation stone for Warwick Lane Wesleyan Chapel on 11 Aug 1835 and renounced trusteeship under Nathaniel Merridew's will in 1842 (see PA101/7/125). See BA/A/G/26/72. Jerard had an assistant from 1843 and died 20 Jul 1851 aged 75. He lived at Warwick Row (1830). A British School trustee, 1840 (PA2398/6/2/8/8). See PA2603/13.
