Reciting:- Will of John Lant of Allesley, grazier, dated 31 Oct 1809 in which he bequeathed to his nephews John Campion of Leamington Priors, grazier, John Warner of Hartshill, engineer, and Reverend Benjamin Carpenter of Stourbridge, the following lands in Meriden:- (1) 8 closes called Barn Field, the Four Day Work, The Meadow, Folly Field, Marlfield, Old Barn Field, The Lawford, and The Limefield (60 acres) occupied by the testator; (2) messuage, meadow and three closes (formerly divided into 6 parts) (29 acres) occupied by the testator; (3) messuage and 6 closes (formerly divided into 8 parts) and a meadow (in all 33 acres) purchased by the testator from John Lynes and in his own occupation. To hold this property in trust for the use of his nephew John Lant and his heirs, then his nephew Thomas Lant and his heirs, then his nephew George Lant and his heirs, then his nephew William Lant and his heirs, then his nephew Weyman Lant and his heirs, then his nephew Joseph Lant and his heirs. Will proved 28 Jun 1813; John Lant had died in May 1813. Indenture dated 30 Dec 1841, conveyance from John Dalton Lant of Allesley, gentleman, to Arthur Haymes of Leamington Priors, gentleman. Reciting that the beneficiaries of John Lant's will had died without issue as follows: John Lant on 13 Dec 1809; Thomas Lant in May 1825; George Lant in Apr 1833; William Lant in Sep 1828; Weyman Lant in Dec 1836 (with George being buried at Coventry, the others at Berkswell). Joseph Lant had also died but leaving as his heir his only son John Dalton Lant. Now John Dalton Lant conveys the property to Haymes in order to better secure the title of the property to himself. Indenture dated 21 Jul 1842, mortgage from John Dalton Lant to Reverend Charles Francis Wyatt of Broughton, Oxfordshire. Reciting that Joseph Lant had died in Nov 1835 and that JD Lant is his only heir by his wife Deborah nee Deborah Eaves who married Joseph Lant on 2 Mar 1802 at Arley; JD Lant was born on 1 Jun 1805 and baptised at Coventry St Michael's on 11 Jun 1805. Now for £6000, Lant mortgages the following property to Wyatt:- (1) 2 messuages occupied by Widow Kimberley and Joseph Smith, labourer; (2) 17 closes: Four Day Work (4 acres 2 roods 0 perches), The Meadow (6 acres), Limefield (6 acres 2 roods), Home Close (8 acres) and Hillfield (6 acres) in Meriden, bounded on the east by the lands of Richard Lant, on NW by lands of Mrs Shakespear; NE by (other lands of JD Lant?), south by lands of the Earl of Aylesford, and west by the lands of Mrs Barnett Bellison. Indenture dated 21 Jan 1843, mortgage from JD Lant to John Munton of Banbury, Oxfordshire, gentleman, for £1000 of the same property mortgaged in 1842. Indenture dated 27 Apr 1844, assignment of mortgages from Charles Wyatt, John Munton and JD Lant to Abraham Eaves of Arley, gentleman. Reciting that the £6000 and the £1000 mortgages remain owing as does some of the interest. Now for £6162 2sh 7d from Eaves to Wyatt, and £1031 from Eaves to Munton, the mortgages on the property are assigned to Eaves. Indenture dated 27 May 1844, conveyance from John D Lant to Abraham Eaves and his trustee Dr James Littermaster of Meriden. Eaves has contracted with Lant to buy the property for £8600. It has been agreed that Eaves should retain £7193 2sh 7d of this sum which is due to him on the mortgages. Now for £1406 17sh 5d the premises are conveyed to Eaves. Will of Abraham Eaves dated 17 Jul 1837 in which he bequeathed to Hannah Eaves, his sister, his real estate as follows: the farm and lands called Arley Hall estate [actually Sloley Hall estate - see below] and lands in Fillongley called Malletts Farm, Saunders land, Shakespears land and Hollybush land and Millfield (160 acres) and, after her death, to his nephew John D Lant, and after his death to Lant's eldest son, with Swain Wilson and Henry Lea acting as trustees; (2) estate at Warwick to his great nephew Philip Parsons; (3) to his sister Hannah Colliers Oak Farm and Bates Farm at Fillongley and, after her death, to his great nephew Junius Eaves Minet, and his heirs, with Wilson and Lea acting as trustees; other bequests detailed. Codicil of Abraham Eaves dated 24 Oct 1839 in which he revoked the divisees in his will re Sloley Hall estate (mistakenly in the will called Arley Hall estate) etc and devised them to his sister Hannah, with a weekly sum of £1 to be paid to his nephew JD Lant; and after the death of his sister, Wilson and Lea are to apply the sum of £3000 in trust for the benefit equally of his great nephew George Lant Minet, great niece Jane Parsons, and great nephew William Parsons. Eaves died 31 Dec 1844; will proved 10 May 1845. Will of William Wilson of Exhall, Esq dated 24 Apr 1868 in which his son Edward Wilson was made executor. Wilson died 12 Jul 1868; will proved 12 Sep 1868. Will of Hannah Eaves of Arley, spinster, dated 28 Apr 1845, appointing her friends Thomas Owen of Arley, farmer, and George Bentley of Fillongley, farmer, and her sister, Frances Eagle, as executors. She bequeathed half of her estate to the children of Jane Parsons (except Philip Parsons who had already been provided for) and the other half of her estate to the children of Eliza Minet (except Junius Minet who had already been provided for). Will proved 30 Jun 1847; Hannah Eaves had died 9 May 1847. Indenture dated 29 Jan 1862, appointment of new trustees by Owen and Bentley. Reciting that Francis Eagle had died in 1850. Now, Owen and Bentley appoint Philip Lant Parsons of Leamington Priors and Junius Eaves Minet as trustees to replace themselves. Indenture dated 30 May 1873, mortgage from Junius Eaves Minet of Sloley Hall, Arley, gentleman, to Mary Lea and Elizabeth Lea of Coventry, spinsters. Reciting will and codicil of Abraham Eaves and that the trustee Swain Wilson and Eaves himself had died. Reciting will of Hannah Eaves. Reciting that by indenture dated 26 Jun 1847 William Wilson had been appointed trustee to replace Swain Wilson. Henry Lea, the other trustee, died 31 Dec 1854. Reciting the 1862 indenture (above). Reciting that William Wilson died 12 Jul 1868 leaving Edward Wilson as his heir. Eliza Minet (the beneficiary of Hannah Eaves) had (re) married - to a John Nightengale at St Pancras Church, Middlesex on 26 Aug 1849. She died leaving seven children: JE Minet, Mary Eliza Catherine Lant the wife of Charles Henry Cope, William de Clopton Minet, Henry Minet, George Lant Minet, Emily Francis Minet, and Ann Eliza Nightengale, all of whom, except the last, had attained the age of 21. William de Clopton Minet died 27 May 1866; in his will dated 15 May 1862, he left his estate to his eldest brother, Junius Eaves Minet; will proved 23 Apr 1873. Henry Minet had died on 11 Feb 1868; in his will dated 26 Aug 1867 he too left his estate to his eldest brother, Junius Eaves Minet; Ann E Nightengale had died on 17 Apr 1872 under the age of 21. Therefore, under the terms of the will of Hannah Eaves, Junius Eaves Minet as the beneficiary of two of his siblings (William and Henry), had become entitled to 2 of the 5 shares in the one half of the estate of Hannah Eaves bequeathed to the children of Eliza Minet (see above). Now (ie 30 May 1873) JE Minet mortgages these two fifth shares to Mary and Elizabeth Lea for £500. Indenture dated 28 May 1878. Reciting that Mary Lea died on 17 Aug 1876; the £500 mortgage remains due to Elizabeth Lea. Now for £500 from JE Minet to Elizabeth Lea she reconveys the property to him. Abstract dated 1878.
