performing searches | search results | about the collections How do I search the database?Quick Search To carry out a quick search of the catalogue, simply enter a word
or phrase into the AnyText box and click on the Search button. Other search options If you know the title of a particular object, work of art or archive
then enter this name in the Title box. This does not include the name
of an object, work of art or archive such as doll, watercolour or letter.
Terms such as these should be entered in the AnyText box instead. Click
on Search to find everything with this title. Word Options You may select on of these three options before carrying out a search.
OR will search the database for records containing one of the words entered into a field. For example a search for Lady Godiva with OR selected will find all records which contain either Lady OR Godiva. This will typically produce more results than a search with AND selected. PHRASE will search the database for records containing the complete phrase. In this instance a search for Lady Godiva will only find records where the words appear as a complete phrase. Field OptionsThe field options work in the same way except these refer to searches with terms entered in more than one of the fields above. AND will search the database for records which contain all of the terms entered. For example a search for Lady Godiva in the Title box and painting in the Description box will only find records which contain both. The same search with OR selected will find records which have either of these terms.
